Hi and welcome to our blog, FinSki’s!
We are Katriina and Izabella – aka Blondie and Bella – two best friends and mothers, married to hubbies who enjoy a round of golf each Sunday followed by a meat raffle down at the local.
We have 2 kids, Sebastian and Imogen, both aged in or around 7 years old who are practically brother and sister.
The name FinSki’s came about through our Finnish and Polish heritages. I was born in Poland to Polish parents and migrated to Australia with my family back in 1981. Katriina was born in Australia to a Finnish mother and an Australian father.
Starting FinSki’s was an natural step, we both love food and love how it makes you feel, the experiences you have with it and the memories those experiences leave you with.
Unbeknownst to us at the time, FinSki’s really started with what was a one off forage for wild mushrooms with the kids and my parents, Babcia and Dziadek (who later turned out to be Sebastian’s ‘adopted’ Grandparents). Every spare weekend we would pack up the car, the kids and Chief (Blondie’s dog) and head into the pine forests of the Southern Highlands just south of Sydney to pick gorgeous, meaty, succulent Slippery Jacks and Saffron Milk Caps (aka) Pine Mushrooms to bring home and cook up a delicious, mushroomy feast.
Our blog is about us, our heritages, our cooking and experiences… the good, the bad and the sometimes ugly!
We look forward to sharing our recipes and the stories behind them with you… and yours with us.

Hi Izabella,
I sent you an email but I’m not sure if you got it.
Congratulations! You won a double pass to Jiro dreams of Sushi.
Let me know where to post it.

Hi Bella,
I am doing some research for a Polish episode of a food programme for tv – would love to talk to you when you have a moment please?
Hi Georgie,
Sounds interesting. I will email you my contact details.

Bella
How wonderful for your girls! Such a wonderful, wonderful blog – beautifully written and the photographs seem so professional (I could be on Donna Hay’s website!). Bella, you obviously got over your writers block with a beautiful introduction. I’m so happy for you both. Love it! Amanda
Thanks Amanda! Both Katriina and I so excited and very proud of it so far. Katriina takes awesome photos and I am just learning but will get there in the end.
